We did it Minnesota!

I’m super excited the Minnesota is a state

that now recognizes equality for all!

From Minnesota Freedom to Marry:

On May 14, 2013, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton signed the freedom to marry into law, one day after the Minnesota Senate voted in favor of the marriage bill, ensuring that Minnesota became the 12th state to end the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage. Just days before, the bill was approved in the House.

Same-sex couples can begin marrying in Minnesota on August 1, 2013.

On February 27, 2013, marriage bills were introduced in the Minnesota House of Representatives and the Minnesota Senate. On March 13, the House Civil Law Committee and the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance the bills to the full floor. On May 9, the MN House took up the marriage bill and voted 75-59 to end the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage.

Just six months before the vote, Minnesota voters began the discussion about the freedom to marry when voters rejected a proposed constitutional amendment that would have permanently limited the freedom to marry to different-sex couples on Election Day on November 6, 2012. The victory made Minnesota the first state to ever defeat an anti-marriage amendment.

Tuesday, May 14, 2013 – Saint Paul, MN – In a historic moment tonight on the steps of the Minnesota State Capitol, Governor Mark Dayton officially signed the freedom to marry into law, surrounded by legislators, families, and more than 6,000 Minnesotans who made today a reality. Minnesotans United, the campaign that successfully defeated the hurtful marriage amendment in 2012 and led the effort at the Capitol to secure the freedom to marry in 2013, released the following statement following tonight’s event:

“Today would never have been possible without the dedication and commitment of the hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans who believe that freedom means freedom for everyone. Just two years ago, today was nearly unimaginable – but over the last 24 months, Minnesotans proved that we don’t turn our backs on family. Minnesotans United rejoices today with the thousands of Minnesota families and children who will soon have the freedom to marry and be treated fairly and equally by their government, and we thank the thousands of Minnesotans and partner organizations who worked tirelessly to ensure that this day finally arrived.

I had the honor of shooting the wedding ceremony for Winston and Sylia at the Weisman Art Museum on the University of Minnesota campus. I fell in love this this amazing venue the moment I walked in! Sylia and Winston are a fabulous couple that were surrounded with love on their wedding day. I LOVED the way the bright flowers looked against the white walls of the William G. Shepherd room. And having the ceremony right in the middle of the museum was beyond cool. The Seville’s got the dance going and the night was perfect! Michelle Tanner | Weisman Art Museum Wedding Photographer.

The Weisman Art Museum offers a unique environment for celebrations, meetings, or other gatherings. Overlooking the Mississippi River, the museum has one of the best views of the city skyline along with a variety of art offerings. Weisman Art Museum Wedding Photographer, Michelle Tanner of Michelle Tanner Photography, is a fabulous match for this venue!

This carpeted room holds 120 for lecture-style seating as a flat-floor auditorium. It may also be arranged with tables as a meeting space or opened up to become part of the adjacent Riverview Gallery for large dinners and receptions. The capacity of the combined spaces is up to 200 for a seated dinner and up to 500 for a reception.

The museum presents and interprets works of art, offering exhibitions that place art within relevant cultural, social and historical contexts. Several major exhibitions are offered each year, as well as organized letters, symposia, tours and special events focused upon educational themes. In its 70-year history, the museum has worked with more than fifty departments, presenting the ideas of a great university in multi-disciplinary and widely collaborative projects. The museum’s active touring program serves the cultural/educational needs of rural communities primarily in the Upper Midwest, as well as national and international audiences.

Minneapolis Headshot Photographer

I love head shots! I don’t think that head shots need to be stuffy and boring. I love to get outside the idea of having to take head shots in a studio. I snap all of my head shot on locating using the environment as the back drop. Having a professional head shot for marketing, business, dating sites or social media is a must! We will chat before your session so I know how the images will be used and brainstorm where the best environment will be for your session. Michelle needed some head shots for professional use. For her session, we choose the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, MN. There are so many options around for great looking backgrounds!
