Minneapolis Photographer :: Starbucks Gift Card Winner!

Drum roll please…

Congrats to Jessi Meyer! (Please excuse the quality of the above picture. It was taken and processed with my iPhone) And can I just say… WOW! When I asked people to post comments on my blog, I had no idea I would be getting comments that would kick my ego in high gear! Thanks everyone! I would like to continue this giveaway. Comment on any blog post I make during the week and every Friday morning I will use the random name picker website to pick a new winner. Now, I do love hearing good things about my work but feel free to leave any kind of (nice) comment. I just want to know you are stopping by. And feel free to leave suggestions on where you would like a gift card from. I’m all ears!

On a personal note, I’m living out of my car. Sounds fun doesn’t it? When I image someone living out of their car I think of a free spirit, a songwriter with a guitar, long hair, bare feet and a location somewhere the sun shines. Certainly not Minnesota. But add rain inside your house, an active 19 month old toddler, a musician and a photographer (artists to the full extent of the definition), living out of your car isn’t as glamorous as it sounds. Thankfully our insurance company hooked us up with one of those extended stay hotels but, man, do I miss being at home, sleeping in my own bed,  and not living out of brown grocery store bags and having all my things in one place.

Tomorrow we are off to Madison, WI. (Ah, the life of a rock and roll star. Ha-ha!) My husband is playing a wedding reception for a dear friend. Junior gets to hang out with Grandpa and Grandma while Mom and Dad take a mini tour of I94, then we will stay in yet another hotel and come home…to another hotel. But I think I’ll document our little tour and report back early next week with a cornucopia of tour shots. So stay tuned and start your comments now for the next drawing!

Peace and love,

Minneapolis Music Photographer :: Ali Gray Live + Win a Starbucks Gift Card!

Hello folks! It’s amazing what a little sunlight will do for your mood. Sure, rain is in the forecast but that means the snow will melt faster. For this, I am thankful! I’m also thankful for one, Ali Gray.

I met Ali many moons ago when she joined the Martin Zellar Neil Diamond tribute show that my husband was a part of. Ali was the “new girl” that joined the band when the original back up singer moved to Los Angeles. We were skeptical. Ali was super cute (she still is of course!) and sang her heart out… but she was still the new girl… poor girl. Do you remember being the new kid on the block when you where a kid? Trying to make friends in an already established bunch of brats? But Ali is full of grace and has a big heart, something we all soon found out, and she blended in with the group and the wives like she had been there for years. As the years passed, I have become best of friends with Ali. We have seen each other through the good times and the bad times. Ali is a true gem. Last November Ali released her second solo album, Johnson Street. I was able to follow along with her in her journey as she recorded Johnson Street. Then I had the honor to photograph the CD release party at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis. Words cannot express how proud I am of Ali and how blessed my family is to have her part of our lives. And I think that everyone should run over to CDBaby and buy her album!

I also want to do something new and fun with my blog. I want you to comment! So here is the deal. At the bottom of each blog post there is a place for you to leave a comment. Please do so! Every person who leaves a comment will be entered into a drawing for a $5.00 gift card to Starbucks. This is something I may turn into a weekly contest. So lets get started now. Leave a comment and your name will be entered. I will draw the winning name at random on Friday morning at 9am!

I don’t think that she could be more gorgeous if she tried! Great work Michelle!

Ali Gray is not only gorgeous, but uber talented as well! I love her voice and her songs are always so intelligent. She reminds me a lot of Bob Dylan, you really have to dig into the lyrics because there’s always a story. Love her!

I remember when Ali first started singing with Marin… could she replace the gal who left? Would she be right for the band? Not only did she prove very capable, she won everyone over… and was beautiful besides. The photos are wonderful. Congrats on the CD, Ali and kudos on the photos, Michelle:o)

Stillwater Engagement Photographer :: Shooting in the Stillwater Caves

The snow is melting and birds are singing. Spring is in the air. Yet I still find myself daydreaming of Mexico with my little family. I’m abruptly transported back to reality when I step out of my car into a huge puddle of water. Can you even call it a puddle when it is so full that is soaks through to the top of a pair of Friar knee high boot? On the plus side, this white stuff is melting but I still tell myself that there is no way I can spend another winter in Minnesota. Something I have been telling myself for 12 years and I am still here.

Thank goodness I have amazing opportunities to photograph super cool people in super cool Minnesota locations. That does put a smile on my face even though I have wet feet. Check this session out. We shot in the caves in Stillwater. When I heard we were doing a shoot there I started to panic. I’m über (just for you Jes!) claustrophobic and was freaking myself out a bit during the shoot. But look at these beautiful people! I quickly did the math and realized I had enough time to take some super cool pictures and had enough oxygen until we went back outside.
